FAQ
Questions buyers ask about Calcium Formate
What does calcium formate do in a mortar?
Calcium formate accelerates cement hydration and pulls early strength forward without the chloride corrosion risk of calcium chloride. It is the standard winter-grade accelerator in tile adhesive, screed and gypsum plaster: the mix sets sooner at low site temperature and can be walked on or covered earlier. It is CAS 544-17-2, supplied at 98% purity.
Can calcium formate be used in gypsum plaster?
Yes. Calcium formate accelerates the setting of gypsum plasters as well as cement systems, and it is chloride-free, so it does not attack the galvanised or steel components in contact with the plaster. In gypsum it is usually combined with a retarder, because a plaster needs both a working window and a predictable final set.
How is calcium formate packed and shipped?
Calcium Formate ships in 25 kg, 12.5 kg and 6.25 kg bags or 1,000 kg jumbo bags. Custom printing is available on all pack sizes and the artwork design is free of charge. The minimum order is 1 metric ton. A 20-foot container takes 26.5 t loose; palletised loading is quoted per order. A free sample is available so you can run a trial mix before ordering.
