Product line
Hydroxypropyl starch ether (HPS)
Product overview
What Starch Ether is
Starch ether is the rheology additive that gives a fresh mortar its body: the ridge left by the trowel holds, and the mix feels smoother under the blade without more water. Because it carries workability on its own, part of the high-viscosity cellulose ether in a formulation can be replaced with it — the usual cost lever in C1TE and C2TES1 tile adhesives and in flexible putty.

FAQ
Questions buyers ask about Starch Ether
What does starch ether do in a tile adhesive?
Starch ether gives the fresh mix its body: it builds sag resistance and a smoother trowel feel, so the ridge left by a notch trowel holds on a vertical wall. It does not replace water retention — that still comes from the cellulose ether. In C1TE and C2TES1 adhesives it is the additive that carries workability while the ether dose stays lean.
Can starch ether replace the cellulose ether in my formula?
Only part of it, and only the high-viscosity part. Starch ether carries workability and sag resistance; the cellulose ether carries water retention and open time, and if you take it out entirely the mortar dries at the edges before the tile goes on. The usual move is to cut the high-viscosity ether dose and make up the body with starch ether, then confirm the pair on a trial mix with your own filler.
How is starch ether packed and shipped?
Starch Ether ships in 25 kg bags or 1,000 kg jumbo bags. Custom printing is available on all pack sizes and the artwork design is free of charge. The minimum order is 1 metric ton. Loading quantities for a 20-foot container are quoted per order. A free sample is available so you can run a trial mix before ordering.
